Jackson Hole WY and Bozeman MT…The wide and cold west.

So Monday was snowy and rainy and very cold. I get to the employee parking area and get out of my car, coat on umbrella up and walk the little ways to the bus stop. While in the bus stop freezing my butt off, I meet a very nice, larger airline flight attendant. As we talk she asks where are you going, I give a little laugh and say Jackson hole and Bozeman. She giggles a little bit “that’s a little cold” “ I’m going to Maui, and we get a 36 hour lay over before coming home”. I pictured my hands around her neck while I brave the elements she will be on a beach getting tan. Oh well at least my company is stable. Don’t get me wrong I love Jackson hole It’s a awesome place, I love it so much I have driven there a few times a year. But flying into it was a different monster. We were the 1st flight of the day to fly in there, that’s how bad the weather was all day. When we got there I saw the bottom of the mountains and the airport, still it was beautiful and the air although cold was fresh better than Maui I am sure… Who needs a beach when you have the Tetons. The flight went well and I was back in SLC before I knew it 35 minutes there 36 back so quick and a little bumpy. I was Flight Attendant A I screwed up all the annocments and yes the people where listening, I know because they all laughed at me. Things to do in Jackson Hole/Tetons this summer??
Hike paintbrush divide to cascade canyon back to jenny lake I think it is close to 20 to 30 miles and it was in backpacker as a tough day hike. We have done the cascade canyon part it is one of the best hikes I have ever done it was so beautiful. AND I SAW a BEAR…3 of them. Haha ….So I can’t wait to see what paint brush divide holds for us. And of course I Need to raft there sometime…
Bozeman trip was easy, I had a person get on that wasn’t meant to be there, I asked him are you going to Bozeman he said hi( busy talking on his phone) I just knew he wasn’t going to Bozeman had a feeling. So I did my announcement About going to Bozeman MT he was still on his phone, so again he sat there. Finely we did a count and we were one to many, so I told the other FA hey that guy in the hat he didn’t pay attention to me when he got on I think he is going to Jackson hole, go ask. So she did What do you know he was going to Jackson hole and so off the plane he went. Not before he said I wish someone would have said something about where we were going. The other attendant said “sir we announced it 2 times and you were asked you just had you attentions somewhere else” he laughed “ I guess I was on the phone” She said “ it’s good to listen when you get on a plane.” He left. That was the most excitement. Except when I tried to knock myself out on the way back. I reached into a empty seat to get some trash and hit my head on the over head bin, I got dizzy try walking on a moving plane in turbulence with a bad head it’s not fun. My head still hurts today… I want to go to big sky sometime not far from Bozeman and hike in the summer and board in the winter…By the way I have pictures of Bozeman from the sky I will post them next time and I have the reason why I love my job picture also. On the way into SLC we had the best golden sunset with the dark storm clouds parting and the lake shinning it was amazing. God has wonders beyond my dreams and I am lucky enough to see them even if it’s a little window in a galley door it’s still amazing beauty

Little Rock Gateway to the Ozarks

April 16, easter.. I spent it in the air flying.I saw the Rockies, fields layed out like patch work blankets and lots of houses here and there. The window of an airplane gives you a different look at the world. Sometimes when we are on the ground we forget how beautiful things are, the smog limits our views. But in the Air it is clear how very lucky we are and how very amazing the beauty is all around us. I got the call around 7am to go to the airport for a 855 duty in. I slowly got dressed and searched for my panty hose, which I never found so I had to wear my pants instead. Finially I left the house and headed to the airport. Once I got there I relised I should have brought my carry on just incase we got stuck in little rock, but it was to late and I crossed my fingers it didn't happen.
The flight there was really easy. I spent most of my time talkig with passengers and passing out drinks. One Passenger in the 1st row told me her whole life story and time I took the time to stop. It helped the flight go by but I still felt funny talking about her husbans death. I recieved 2 dollars in tips on that flight which in my life was the 1st real tip I have ever gotten. I am over excited about that. WE landed with no problem and when they opened the door I knew we were in a new place. The humity was high and it was just a little hot. The pilot told me that when summer comes it will be hotter, so just keep that in mind for the trips you take later. I said ok.
Things I woud like to do in Arkanas.
The Buffalo River canoeing and hiking. I will have to say it was about 1997 or 1998 when I read in back packer about the Buffalo river. I put it in my list then and almost forgot about it. But a few years ago my best friend went to Arkanas for spring break, She hiked and explored. When she returned she told me about all the cool things and even mentioned the buffalo river. I knew we were going to be friends for a long time hell she even wanted to go do more at a place like the buffalo river. Not every one can say that. not everyone knows where it is at. So I made sure to look at my list and write in hiking in the buffalo river rec area. I am sure soon we will do that at least I hope to.
I would also like to see twin falls and go to Magazine Mountain the highest peak in Arkanas. What else???
Anyway I had a very uneventful flight home even earned another dollar in tips. Wow I am rolling in the money now. I talked very little with the passenges that flight they mostly slept. Soemtimes the most beautiful people look really ugly when they sleep. Just so you know, I won't say anything else on that. And that was it.I got off the plane and left something very important on it I hope that the next crew will be kind and do what needs to be done with it. But you never know. I went home ate dinner and went to sleep. Now I am getting ready for todays flights Jackson hole and Bozeman.. Talk to you later

Bozeman MT. Let the adventure begin.

I have finally flown the nest to speak. I am now a flight attendant flying the line not just sitting and waiting. The flight last 56 minutes there 1 hour on return. With a 7 hour nap in between. Not to exciting but better than Boise.
The Count…
I was flight attendant B so I had to do the count, you wouldn’t think it would be that hard but you know it’s not all that easy. I must have counted 3 times going section by section and counting over and over. I tried not to point my finger at the passengers so I would nod my head. This made me laugh, how silly I must look. I had this giant smile on my face and I giggled as I counted. But it was ok the Passengers all smiled back. So my last effort to count I came up with the exact number and we were pretty much set.
I briefed my exit rows, and had them laughing. They said they were all willing to help out if there was an emergency and that’s all I needed to know.
The Departure speech
I started out by laughing at myself when I screwed up the speech. And by laughing at myself it made the passengers laugh. I forgot to breath while saying the little speech and had to take a few stops which I am sure sounded very strange. But not a single passenger told me I sucked so that was good. In fact a lady in row 1 said to me “when you have a moment I need to tell you a story” So I told her I would be back. She was very encouraging kept saying your doing great, and she smiled. I did my little walk, and then headed back to my jump seat. Which took a few minutes to get out because I forgot there was a lock holding it in place. Soon the seat was released and I sat.
After Take off
I found some stickers in the shape of wings and offered them to the kids on the plane, all of which had just gotten back from Disney Land. They were the best kids so quiet and nice, but only one wanted my wing stickers. I guess the stuff in Disney must have been cooler. We started the beverage service, And I am proud to admit that I didn’t run over anyone or spill their drinks. I made small talk and I think offered a pretty good service. After the beverage service was over we had 17 minutes until we landed so I picked up trash and then stopped by the lady in row 1. She told me that when she was in high school, she was a cheerleader, well one day in an assembly she was asked to say the pledge of allegiance. Well when she got up there she recited it and left out four lines or so. She said “you know I was so embarrassed that is something we learned everyday in school and I got up there an just blew it in front of everyone I knew. So don’t you worry you will never see us again and you did a good job. Sometimes mistakes make us better” That lady was so nice I will remember that story for a long time.
So back to my seat I went and before I had to pay close attention I talked with the dad of the kids coming home. I told him how well behaved his kids were and he said yes on the plane they are but in Disney they had me pulling out my hair. The kids told me all about the rides and said the tower of terror felt like landing in the plane. The dad also was shocked by how many lights there were, when you landed in Orange county CA. That the light pollution was a mess. “ What a giant Mess of humanity that is” I believe that’s how he put it. We talked about the little piece of heaven Montana was and just life in general. @ rows up a lady turned to me and asked “how long have you been doing this?” I said “this is my 1st official flight after training. Why did I do something wrong?” She said “no you were the best FA I have ever flown with. You were happy when we got on you were happy the entire time you talked to us and you just looked like you enjoyed the job. I have been very unhappy with some of the others I have flown with. I hope that your this way after years of doing it.” I told her that “ the benefits are so good at this job that they out weigh the bad things that could happen. I am free to go and do and see the world and that makes me so happy that it would take a lot to ruin this job” Then a man one more row up turned around and said what the lady just did. It felt good to know that they enjoyed their flight that I made there night a little better. We landed and they all headed off telling me once again how they enjoyed the flight. I enjoyed the flight, the 1st one was over here’s to a long career.
Hotel…
We took four steps off the airplane and wow we were out of the airport. Not a really big place. But it was beautiful, looked a little like a log home. We got on the van and off we went. Each of us was given a room and we headed to sleep. I didn’t look around to much it was late and it was Bozeman not to much to do. So I took the pen in my room as the 1st trip souviner. I watched a little T.V and went to sleep.
Wake up
Woke up in time got ready headed to the lobby. Met the crew went to airport. The sunrise was awesome the mountains were beautiful and it felt so peaceful. I will return here and explore the rivers and near by valleys. I am going to look up a trail in the area and ad it to my list I will let you know which one. Outdoorsygirl we have to go there ok…
The flight home
It was a good flight, all bussiness men and women. The speech went great my seat came out and no one really talked but I still enjoyed it. I can say I don’t think I can ever top the feeling of that 1st flight and although the people will be good on other flights they will never be like the 1st ones. I have a good job I hope to always feel that way, give or take a few days. I love the feeling of the freedom, last night Bozeman maybe tomorrow key west. I have found something that sooths the traveler inside, a little comfort for the unsettled sole…

Groud Delay

Sorry ladies and Gentalmen there has been a temporary ground delay in the writting of this blog. I have not flowen as of yet. But I have talked with the people who say when I fly and they say soon. I am a little scared that maybe I will forget the ins and outs of my job before I fly but I am sure it's like ridding a bike, all comes back to you whenyou need it.

I will tell you about my 2nd flight, and a place I would like to go. I went to Manchester New Hampshire. From the plane window it was beautiful I saw the ocean and the trees and lakes. I felt a little uncomfortable because everyone on the plane knew I was new and they spent the whole flight watching me, I know they wondered for a little while what was wrong with me, why I didn't know the flight number, why I had the strange perm a grin on my face but shortly after take off it was mentioned by the crew that it was one of my 1st flights. You should have seen the panic erase from the passengers face. They were a little scared up to that point so after that they relaxed and I relaxed and it was good. But when you looked out over the passengers 90% of them were staring back they listened to my every word ( which I heard will never happen again) And when it was all over they told me I was goingto be the best flight attnedant and they hoped to see me again. If was pretty uneventful but still fun. And Yes I want to return there when I have more than 20 minutes. It was already on my list so I didn't add anything from that trip..

Other FA stories, I have a friend who is based out of Atlanta she called the other day. She is one of those people who always have things happen to her. Well the other day she was in NY JFK. The crew all went to the plane when they got there the piolt noticed part of the wing had been knocked off. Seems that someone was driving under the plane and ran into it. So they had to get that fixed, that pushed the flight back. A flight full of people going to Disney world. SO when the plane got fixed 7 hours later and the people got on they were unhappy I know I would be, but it is not the FA's fault. Blame the driver. Anyway this passenger gave her all sorts of problems and about the time she couldn't take any more the passanger looked at her and said you are nothing but a F****** Cu**. Well I would have hit the passenger but not her she made a gasping sound as well as did the other passengers. She walked to the phone and called the captain. The captian called security and the passenger and their whole family were escorted off the plane.. See you should never say things like that to your Flight attendant you may never make it to Disney World.
I have other ground delay stories but will save them for later. Here's to hopingthe adventure will begin soon and sorry again for the delay .

Willing to do whatever it takes to make you happy. you need the whole can well sir the can is yours. You may ask why am I so willing to make you the passenger happy, well because when I get off I can go where ever I want. I can be in the virgin islands tomorrow and in peru next year. I am unsettled, yes I have a house. I don't live in a box I hold a job. but deep inside I have a crazy need to be free. To travel distances, to hike miles, to drive on rock that have no roads. I want to live. look back and feel good about what I have done and what I haven't missed. Yes I am the person who will sit next to you on the plane reading backpacker and if for some chance you mention a good hike, I will be all about telling you my good hikes. Like the time I saw a bear, or a huge beaver ( and if you are like most of the guys I meet you will make some comment about all the beavers you have seen) and I will know that you really aren't that into hiking. And I will still tell you about my adventures. I want people to know what I have done. I like the idea that I may inspire you to try it. Make it a thing to pass on to each other a play it forword type of thing. Maybe you have done something I should add to my list maybe you are a missing piece to my puzzle of life who knows that what adventure is about..

So if you don't know to fasten you seat belt place the flat metal end in to the buckle. Pull the loose strap to tighten and hold on. In the land of adventure there is always turblance....
